Accessibility Statement

BUDS-UK is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to all visitors, including donors, beneficiaries, and volunteers with disabilities.

Conformance target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. The site is built with semantic HTML, keyboard-navigable controls, visible focus states, and respects users' reduced-motion preferences.

What we've built in

  • A “Skip to main content” link for keyboard and screen-reader users.
  • Proper landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer) and a single h1 per page.
  • Form fields with programmatic labels, error messages announced via role="alert", and visible focus rings.
  • Mobile menu with focus trap, aria-expanded state, and Esc-to-close.
  • Light and dark themes, both meeting WCAG AA contrast for body text.
  • Reduced-motion media query that disables animations for users who request it.

Known limitations

We are still working on the following areas:

  • Embedded Facebook feed on the home page — third-party iframe whose contrast we do not control.
  • Some AI-generated programme imagery is decorative; we are gradually adding richer descriptive alt text.

Reporting an accessibility barrier

If you encounter content on this site that is difficult to access or use, please tell us so we can fix it. We aim to acknowledge reports within two working days.
